The Journey of Natty Gann: I really liked this movie. I saw a commercial about it playing on tv. It's a depression, hobo, rail riding story. It reminded me of Newsies in a way, but it's not a musical. Natty and her dad live in Chicago but her dad gets a job in Washington and has to leave without Natty. Natty takes to the rails to find her dad again.

Gentlemen Prefer Blonds: I first saw this movie as a kid, Jane Russell and Marylin Monroe are showgirls, Monroe's character is a bit of a gold digger, she has a millionaire fiance who's (rightfully) very jealous. Russell is Monroe's easygoing but loyal best friend, when the fiance can't go with Monroe on a ship to Paris, Russell goes in his place to chaperone, hijinks and scheming ensue. My brother was watching with me and commented on the inequality between the sexes, which is there, but while the women are rather looked down on, they're also the ones who are really in control. Notable song: Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend.
Jane Austin Book Club: This movie, I think I wanted to see it when it first came out but didn't. Now however many years later I saw in at the library and got it. It was pretty lame. It's the sort of thing that makes me want to not like Austin or identify with the recent... social obsession(?) with her books and the movies made of them. It's a chick flick, the junk food kind, not the kind with substance.

Hitchcock: I was really excited to see this movie, I love Hitchcock's work. I didn't really know quite what to expect going into this movie though. The movie followed Hitchcock and his wife Alma as he made Psycho. It was interesting to look a little closer at Hitch's life and process. It was also got to see Alma Hitchcock get some recognition, she was integral to Hitchcock's work and process but usually remained behind the scenes. It was also very interesting to see what went to making Psycho which was very ground breaking for it's time.
Skyfall: This is the latest Bond. It was pretty awesome. I'm not a huge Bond fan, I believe I've seen five Bond movies now, Only the first two (Dr. No and From Russia With Love) with Sean Connery, and the most recent three with Daniel Craig (who I think is the best Bond). Anyway I've enjoyed the latest movies revisiting the beginning of Bond. I've also enjoyed the way they've been filmed. This Bond title doesn't come from any of the books and gives a bit more insight into Bond and his past. I was disappointed that (spoiler) Judi Dench will no longer play M, I've enjoyed having a woman play Bond's boss. This is not turning out to be a great review but it really was a spectacular movie.

Mary Poppins: Reportedly there was a Christmas where we were at my grandparents and I watched the movie multiple times daily. I tell my parents there are far worse movies I could have made them watch repeatedly (like Barbie Princess and the Popstar). Watching this movie again I still love it and was once again filled with desires for magical Poppins adventures, worlds made of chalk, tea parties on the ceiling, the chimney sweep world.

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen: I saw a preview for this movie when watching another movie and decided I needed to see it. I just got it from the library yesterday, watched it and loved it. It was an absolutely wonderful movie! I loved it's feel good story, I loved the way it was filmed, I loved hearing Ewan McGregor's Scottish accent, pretty much the only thing that I didn't like about this movie was that like many movies or plots of late, a marriage had to be broken up for the happy ending to occur, I wish that wasn't such a norm, I don't like to be rooting for divorce or break ups while hoping for the characters to find happiness. See this movie though, so many good messages.
Kung Fu Panda 2: As far as two movies go, it was pretty good, I still laughed a lot, but something was missing and it wasn't as good as the first.
Kung Fu Panda: The first time I saw this movie I had very low expectations, but this movie surprised me, I loved it. It's funny, there's kung fu and good messages.
Casino Royal: This was the first Bond movie I ever saw, I don't know that I'd ever really been interested in Bond before this movie. I've only seen two Bond's (well three, I've seen part of some movie where Pierce Brosnen was the Bond) and those two are Sean Connery and Daniel Craig, it's hard to choose a better Bond between the two as Connery was the original but even so I think I lean a bit more towards Craig. I think this is a great movie, so many years later, it doesn't look very out dated, there is sometimes computer animation that's pretty obvious but the movie still looks pretty fresh and was filmed very well. Also there weren't too many of the cheesy Bond lines, I see that as a plus.
