Kon Tiki: This was on the list of International Cinema movies for the semester and it sounded interesting. The film was listed as Norwegian (which it is)(as was a lot of the crew of the expedition) and so I assumed that the film would be in Norwegian and I'd be watching with subtitles, I was surprised when I found that the film was made in English (which was nice because reading subtitles isn't really anyone's favorite I would guess). I guess it makes some sense in this day in age, so many Scandinavians speak great English and it gives the film a wider market. Anyway it was a really good film, I don't know that much about the Kon Tiki voyage and so I couldn't say how historically accurate the movie is but it is really good. I was kind of ridiculous actually, as a historical event I knew roughly how the movie would end but the movie got so intense at one point that I had to stop for a little while. I really recommend seeing it, you'll learn something, it's beautifully filmed and just an all around good movie.

The Avengers: I guess I forgot to write about this movie, I really liked it, much more than any of the other Avenger movies, it was nice to have the background though and to be able to put some things together. It was fun to see that the diva attitudes come together. Recommend it.
From Up on Poppy Hill: I've really been excited to see this latest Miyazaki movie, it's not as fantastical as the average Miyazaki movie but it was really good. It is helpful to have background knowledge of Japan in the time period, which one of the friends I watching with was able to provide (history majors are pretty useful to have around).
Schultze Gets the Blues: I had high hopes for this movie, a German polka man retires and discovers zydeco. As I watched it though I found myself thinking back to when I watched Waking Ned Divine, it was a nice, sweet story but the pacing and filming style are radically different from what I'm used to. I probably wouldn't watch it again but it was a nice show. Oh, ps, this is a German movie if I didn't mention that before. Note: I was both shocked and unimpressed by the use of the "N" word in this movie at one point.

Thor: So I wasn't really excited about Thor but I'm still working my way through the Avengers movies.I really like Kenneth Branagh but this movie...it was kinda like the cliff notes version. So much of the plot was cut short, especially for those with no knowledge of Thor, Norse mythology, etc. I was also very unimpressed by the transformation of Thor from a stuck up young punk to a hero just by meeting a pretty girl. All that being said it did make some more sense of Agents of SHEILD and Captain America.

Despicable Me 2: I just saw this at the dollar theater with some friends the other night. It was pretty good, I haven't been able to decide which was better, 1 or 2, they were both pretty good. This movie was not just the same plot line recycled from the first one. I think there's something for different senses of humor too, there were parts that made me laugh quite hard and different parts where my friends were laughing very hard, so that's a good thing I guess.

Despicable Me: I'm late to the party on this one, this was the first time I've seen it. It's pretty good and funny, maybe not quite up to the hype though.
Iron Man 2: I don't know if I liked this better than the first, it was on par I guess. I wasn't a fan of Don Cheadle playing Rhody, Cheadle is of course very talented but I preferred the previous actor.

The Incredible Hulk: As I may have mentioned, I'm watching my way through the Avengers movies. From Iron Man I went on to the Hulk, to clarify this is the more recent Hulk movie. I started watching this movie one evening when I was quite tired and I was having a hard time getting into it. I stopped maybe a third of the way in and really debated whether or not I would finish the movie, eventually I did finish but I don't feel the need to ever watch it again. I guess... Bruce Banner/the Hulk is a nice guy (when he's not the Hulk) and has mystery and a sad situation but he's not really charismatic which I think is something that draws us, me anyway, to superheros, like Iron Man, I have some very negative feelings about Tony Stark but he's charismatic and that draws me in.
